I had the pleasure of presenting at JR IGC this past Tuesday. At first I thought it would be me talking the whole time and having a bunch of pledges and new members just stare at me the whole time while i talked. I had to be interesting because I already know these kids do not want to be here. And i hate being boring. This is Jr Inter-Greek Council and this is where all the new Greeks learn about the system and the school. This is where there are programs about the university and how to be a better student and become more involved on campus. My presentation was entitled "How to Build your Greek Cred" it was about how to be a successful member of the Greek Community at SIUC. The attention getter was images of Greeks presented in a very negative light. Pics that depicted guys as a bunch of drunk dbags and girls as skanks and stuff. I wanted to be funny but at the same time I wanted them to learn about all the opportunities that we get as Greeks. I taught them a little about how to take a picture and how it can come back to haunt you if you take bad pics of others or yourself. Never take a pic with a drink in your hand I always yell drink down! before we take the pic. Also, never draw on your drunk friends and then take pics of them. I told them to be nice to each other and not to talk shit because there is so much you can learn from each other. One of my favorite parts of being Greek is getting to know so many kinds of people and also partying with them. To me I know that we can have a good time and can also get work done and help the community. At the end of my presentation I had all of the new members find someone of the same sex from a different frat or sorority and I had them meet and we had a series of questions they had to ask each other. my main goal was to make them realize how much they all have in common and we need to do this together. I mentioned the cool events everyone puts on and that we need to support each other because it is more fun and you get more connections. The feed back i got was great because they said that they were not bored at all and that they learned about the other groups. I felt damn proud.
